American Airlines has codeshare relationships with several airlines and rail companies, enabling us to provide service to destinations that we don't otherwise serve on our own. Customers have the convenience of purchasing their tickets from American Airlines with an “AA” flight number and booking seats on flights operated by other carriers. Such codeshare flights are considered as American Airlines flights when they have been booked and ticketed on AA. In other words, if eligible-fare tickets reflect American Airlines as the carrier with an AA flight number, then you can earn AAdvantage miles regardless of what carrier operates the flight. For example, if you book and ticket an AA codeshare flight on AA that is operated by China Eastern Airlines, you will earn AAdvantage® miles, even though China Eastern is not an AAdvantage participant.
Moreover, the rules that govern AAdvantage mileage accrual on American Airlines also apply to these AA codeshare flights. This means you will earn full mileage credit on published Discount and Deep Discount fare tickets, which is not always the case when you book travel on other AAdvantage-participating airlines. It’s easy to book AA codeshare flights on AA.com, and the Web site clearly indicates the operating carrier for each segment. If you still have questions, you can always call AAdvantage Reservations at 1-800-882-8880.
